Los Cabos can be as busy or as peaceful as you want. If your goal is to come home rested, a little planning goes a long way. These are the tips we give friends and clients who want a truly relaxing vacation.
Before you travel
1. Choose the right season
November to April brings dry weather and mild temperatures, and humpback whales from roughly mid-December to mid-April. Summer is hotter and quieter, with warm water perfect for swimming. September is the heart of hurricane season, so keep plans flexible.
2. Pick your base
Cabo San Lucas is lively and walkable; the Tourist Corridor offers resorts and quiet beaches; San José del Cabo is calmer and more traditional. Choose the pace you want.
3. Book the important experiences in advance
Private boats, spa treatments and top restaurants fill up during holidays. Reserving early means no stress once you arrive — and if weather moves a date, you still have time to reschedule.
During your stay
4. Do not overschedule
One main activity per day is plenty. Leave afternoons free for the pool, a nap or a walk on the beach.
5. Get on the water once, the right way
A private yacht charter is the most relaxing way to see El Arco and the bays: your group only, your music, and time to swim at your own pace. No lines, no shared boats.
6. Swim where it is calm
Many Pacific-facing beaches have strong currents. Stick to calm bays such as Médano, Santa María and Chileno. Our guide to swimmable beaches explains which are which.
7. End at least one day with a sunset cruise
Golden light on the Arch, a drink in hand and the marina lights coming on. A sunset cruise is the easiest “wow” moment of any trip.
Local tip: Couples love a 2-hour sunset cruise on a 35 ft yacht — it is private, intimate and starts from $490.
8. Book a spa morning
Los Cabos resorts are known for their spas. Book a treatment the day after an active excursion.
9. Eat well and slowly
From taco stands to farm-to-table dinners, food is part of the rest. See our Los Cabos food guide.
10. Protect yourself from the sun
The Baja sun is strong year-round. Hats, reef-safe sunscreen and plenty of water — especially on the boat.
11. Disconnect for a few hours
Leave the laptop at the hotel. A few hours on the water with no signal might be the best part of your trip.
12. Let a local team handle the details
We confirm your boat, meeting point and timing by WhatsApp, so all you need to do is show up at the marina. Compare boats and prices in our yacht charter price guide.
