Best Beaches in Los Cabos: Which Are Swimmable (and Which to See by Boat)

Los Cabos has dozens of beaches, but here is what surprises many visitors: not all of them are safe for swimming. Beaches facing the Pacific often have strong currents and a steep shore break, while bays facing the Sea of Cortez are usually calm. This guide tells you which beaches to swim at, which to simply admire, and which are best reached by boat.

Local tip: Always check the flag system and local advice. A red or black flag means no swimming, even on normally calm beaches.

Best swimmable beaches in Los Cabos

Médano Beach (Cabo San Lucas)

The main beach in town, with calm water most of the year, restaurants, water sports and a view of El Arco. Easy to reach on foot from many hotels.

Santa María Bay

A horseshoe-shaped protected bay along the Tourist Corridor, and one of the best snorkeling spots in Los Cabos. Clear water, reef on both sides and fish right from the shore. By land it involves a parking lot and a walk; by boat you anchor right in the bay.

Chileno Bay

Another calm, clear bay with reef and good facilities. Popular with families. Like Santa María, it is even better from the deck of a private boat.

Lover’s Beach — Sea of Cortez side

Tucked beside El Arco and reachable only by water. The side facing the Sea of Cortez is usually calm; the Pacific side is not (see below).

The best beaches in Los Cabos — Lover’s Beach, Santa María and Chileno — share one thing: they are easier and more private by boat. On a private snorkeling charter the captain picks the calmest bay of the day, drops anchor and you jump straight into the water, no crowds and no parking.
