What to Bring on a Boat Tour in Cabo: The Complete Packing List
You booked your boat day in Cabo — now what should you pack? Whether you are heading out on a sunset cruise, a snorkeling trip or a full day of sportfishing, this checklist covers what to bring, what to leave at the hotel and a few local tips most visitors only learn the hard way.
The essentials (every trip)
- Swimsuit — wear it under your clothes to save time.
- Reef-safe sunscreen — the Baja sun is strong year-round, and it protects the reefs.
- Sunglasses, hat or cap — polarized glasses help you see fish and reef.
- Towel — some boats provide them; ask when you book.
- Light jacket or sweater — the ride back can be windy, especially at sunset and in winter.
- Waterproof phone case or dry bag.
- Cash for gratuity — 15–20% for the crew is customary in Cabo.
- ID and the balance payment for your charter.
For snorkeling and swimming
- Water shoes for rocky entries
- A rash guard for sun protection in the water
- Your own mask if you have one that fits perfectly (gear is usually available on board — confirm when booking)
For sportfishing
- A Mexican fishing license for every angler (we can arrange it)
- Seasickness remedy taken the night before and in the morning
- A light breakfast — boats leave at 6:00 or 7:00 am
- A cooler bag if you plan to take fillets back to your hotel
More in our Cabo fishing guide.
For celebrations
- Decorations or a cake (or ask us to arrange them)
- A playlist — most yachts have a sound system
- Matching outfits for the group photo
Local tip: Heels and hard-soled shoes damage yacht decks and are slippery. Go barefoot on board or wear flat, non-marking sandals.
What to leave at the hotel
- Glass bottles (many boats do not allow them)
- Expensive jewelry — it is easy to lose in the water
- Large hard suitcases or coolers that take up deck space
Food and drinks: bring or buy?
On all-inclusive yachts, food and an open bar are included. On Essential yachts you can bring your own snacks and drinks or add an all-inclusive upgrade for $125 per hour. Compare options in our yacht charter price guide.
